Latvia sets an annual fee of €400,000 for live dealer services inside the country

The Latvian government has announced new legislation changes regarding online gambling. From January 1, 2018, providers of online Live Dealer services will have to pay an annual fee of €400,000. They also considered a separate €11,700 tax for each live table, but the annual fee is more straightforward and leaves way less space for falsification. It also leaves no chance for small live dealer studios to survive, or at least to grow.

This news is so interesting for us because Latvia is home for the industry-leading Live Dealer games provider: Evolution Gaming. The first Evolution Gaming studio appeared in Riga back in 2006, and now they have other studios in Malta, Hungary, Georgia, and Belgium. The company has recently won the Dienas Biznes TOP 500 award, nominated as the fastest growing employer of the year and currently has about 3,000 employees.

When the amendment was announced, the Evolution Games representatives said that it would have severe consequences for the company. They have confirmed that they are ready to adhere to the new standards, so you can breathe easy again: Evolution Gaming is standing tall. We're not sure what can be said about the younger or less powerful companies out there who may not be capable of paying such fees, however. Will players face direct consequences as a result of this new law or will they be felt more by Live Game providers and online casinos in general? We'll just have to wait and see what the new brings.

In the meantime, you may check out live dealer studios by Evolution Gaming at Trada Casino, Casumo Casino, and Guts Casino and see what they're paying for.
