What is Nektan?
As they say on their website, they are “a leading international gaming solutions and services provider.” What this means is that if you ever want to run a casino, you just call these guys to say, “Hey guys, I want to run an online casino.” They’ll say, “Sure thing, bro,” and, after a few weeks, you will get a fully functional, Nektan-powered casino website, including games, promos, banking options, and a support center.
Their software platform is a great tool, which allows casino owners to focus exclusively on marketing so let Nektan handle all the boring technical and legal stuff.
Now, we’ll assume that you don’t want to open your own gambling site just yet, and focus on what Nektan casino sites in the UK have to offer to players.
Nektan Casino Sites
All online casinos powered and operated by Nektan have a lot in common - maybe even too much. You get to play the same games in the same-ish game lobby, claim almost the same welcome bonuses, and meet the same promotional terms and conditions. One can’t help but feel a strong sense of déjà vu. In any case, let’s see what UK Nektan online casinos have in stock for you.
Nektan’s Game Library
The game list of Nektan casinos is pretty big and diverse. As of September 2018, it contains over 600 games from 27 different software developers. Even better, they constantly seek to partner with new developers and expand the collection. The latest addition was Yggdrasil and their amazing slots.
A typical Nektan game library has all the possible gaming options provided by NetEnt, Microgaming, IGT, Blueprint, Eyecon, NextGen, Elk Gaming, Merkur, and other developers.
As expected, slots make up the largest part of the game collection. All your favorite games by the top providers are here, but that’s not all. The guys from Nektan develop slots as well, and offer them exclusively on their platform.
Jackpot slots are also here. Both old and new Nektan casinos 2019 are connected to progressive jackpot networks by Microgaming, IGT, and Blueprint. You’ll get to try your luck at slots like:
- Mega Moolah (current jackpot - £18.6m)
- Golden Goddess, Siberian Storm, Wolf Run, Cleopatra (£633k)
- Top Cat, Worms Reloaded, Slots of Gold (£420k)
Other game types include:
- Casino poker
- Video poker
Nektan casinos offer live dealer games from two developers - Extreme Live Gaming and Evolution Gaming. These are standard games, broadcast from live studios. The choice is traditional: blackjack, baccarat, roulette, three-card poker, Dream Catcher, and several more.
Security, Licensing, and Regulation
As a software platform, Nektan holds licenses from the UK, Gibraltar, and Ireland. They obtained the UK license in 2014 and, as of September 2018, their page in the UKGC public register lists over 200 websites, although some of them are no longer operational.
The fact that the software platform is licensed means that every site that runs on this platform automatically operates under this license, meaning that all Nektan casino sites can legally accept players from the UK.
They follow all the rules and regulations strictly and ensure that all promotions and advertisements are accurate, don’t appeal to minors, and are targeted only at audiences that are allowed to play.
They hold RNG certificates from NMI - an international testing organization - which guarantees the fairness and randomness of their games. In the “Fair Games” section, you’ll also see payout reports grouped by game type.
In our research, we found no significant issues recorded concerning Nektan casinos at other watchdog portals.
There used to be an unfair clause in the terms about dormant UK accounts, where they removed a percentage of your balance every month if you didn’t log in for 12 months. Thankfully, they have now changed it to a flat £15 fee.
Design, Game Lobby, Mobile Casino
When it comes to website design, some Nektan casinos are more diligent than others. Casinos such as Plush or Betreels try to deliver something unique, creating a webpage that greets you before you arrive at the lobby. Other casinos don’t make so much effort, so that the lobby is all you’ll find in these.
The game lobby itself looks almost exactly the same across all casinos. The only things that change are the background image and the logo at the top of the site.
The lobby was designed with the “mobile first” concept in mind, and it shows. Big game thumbnails are neatly organized in rows, everything scrolls smoothly, and the interface is adapted to touch screens.
On a desktop, however, it doesn’t look that good. It works, no question about that, but when compared to other instant-play game lobbies, Nektan’s feels a bit sloppy.
The games are divided into categories by type, by developer, and by win frequency.
Most games have demo versions that you can try even before you sign up.
Payment Methods and Banking Policy
Financial transactions are also handled by the platform. The list of available deposit and withdrawal methods is reasonably wide and includes Skrill, Neteller, credit cards, Paysafecard, Trustly, Paypal, and Boku. Keep in mind that not all of these methods are available in every country. For example, only UK players get to use Paypal and Boku in Nektan casinos.
The minimum deposit is usually £10 for most methods, and the minimum withdrawal is £20. There are no fees associated with deposits or withdrawals, except for Boku, where you are charged 15% for every deposit.
The banking terms also specify a “maximum win limit” of £250,000 per game round, excluding progressive jackpots. We think it would be better if there were no such limitation but, frankly, there is only a slight chance that it will affect you, if you are in the habit of playing for extremely high stakes.
Other than that, there don’t seem to be any tricky terms when it comes to banking and withdrawals.
Bonuses at Nektan Casinos
It’s no big surprise that all UK Nektan casino sites have standard lobbies and game collections. What is less expected is that most bonuses, promotions, and bonus terms are also the same. Especially the bonus terms, and that’s one of the most controversial things about Nektan casinos. We’ll get to it a bit later.
As a rule, for a welcome bonus, you get around £500, spread over the first three deposits, and a bunch of free spins. There may be differences in the exact bonus amounts and match percentages on each deposit. The wagering requirements are almost always 30 times the sum of the bonus and deposit amounts.
Some Nektan casinos offer no-deposit bonuses, but this is not something we’d call their signature feature. The terms for these bonuses are also pretty tight - you get a handful of free spins and have to wager your winnings 100 times. Other promotions include tournaments, daily bonuses, occasional free spins, and more.
One thing to remember about Nektan casinos is that you can only claim three welcome bonuses across their network within a 30-day period.
All of this sounds pretty standard, but there are several terms in the bonus policy that may leave you less impressed with the bonus.
Nektan’s Bonus Policy
Bonus terms in the UK are almost identical and share several clauses that may lead to some nasty surprises.
First of all, only your bonus money counts toward completing the wagering requirements. This is not a bad thing in and of itself, because your real balance is not locked until you dip into the bonus. If you happen to hit a big win while playing for the real portion of the balance, you are free to withdraw it with no restrictions. In doing so, you would forfeit the bonus, which is fair.
Another clause is less fair, if you ask us. There’s a limit on how much of the bonus funds will be converted to the real balance upon completing the wagering requirements. For 100% deposit match bonuses, the conversion limit is usually four times the bonus amount.
Now, imagine the situation: you start playing with the bonus and hit it big. You keep playing and complete the wagering requirements. As soon as you do, you get only four times the initial bonus amount converted to the real balance.
There are a few stories from players who ended up in this situation. They won several thousand pounds from the bonus, only to end up with just a few quid after completing the wagering requirements. Of course, this situation is quite rare, but it doesn’t make it any less frustrating if it happens to you.
Almost all bonuses offered by Nektan casinos have this conversion limit.
With this system, you should think about the bonus as a second chance. If you were unlucky with the initial deposit, you get to try again with the bonus. This may sound weird, but the worst case is when you win too much before completing the wagering requirements.
Pros and Cons
As a software platform, Nektan is cool. With regard to casinos powered by Nektan - well, they have their pluses and minuses. Let’s sum them up.
- Nice game collection. The game library at Nektan casinos currently amounts to over 600 games from 20 developers, and new brands are being added on a regular basis. There are slots, table games, live dealers, progressive jackpots, you name it.
- Diverse banking methods. They have all the popular deposit and withdrawal methods covered - Paypal, Neteller, Skrill, Boku (phone billing), Paysafecard, and more.
Works on all devices. The game lobby was designed to work on all modern devices - smartphone, tablets, and desktops. The desktop version is not as polished as we’d like it to be, but everything works fine.
- Licensed and regulated. All white-label casinos powered by Nektan operate under UK and Gibraltar licenses. They are certified by NMI (an organization that tests the RNG) and follow all the UKGC regulations strictly.
Controversial bonus terms. All bonuses in Nektan-powered casinos have a conversion limit. At the moment of fulfilling the wagering requirements, your bonus funds are converted to the real balance, but the maximum amount converted is capped at four times the initial bonus. The exact ratio may vary slightly depending on the site and the bonus, but it’s always there.
- Unimpressive websites. In some cases, there’s nothing else but the game lobby on the website. And the lobby is virtually the same in all Nektan casinos
- High wagering requirements. As a rule, welcome bonuses are subject to a wagering requirement of thirty times the total of the bonus and deposit. For Nektan casino no deposit bonuses, they get even more ridiculous - at 100 times the bonus.
Nektan casinos are springing up at an alarming speed, as the platform becomes more and more popular. Unfortunately, sites powered by Nektan turn out to be of average quality, more often than not. They have some advantages, as you see above, and they are constantly working to add more games and features. So we hope that, some day, casinos on this platform will become really great. For now, the questionable bonus terms, high wagering requirements, and stale desktop website stand in the way.
